WATERING TIPS

It's best to water your lawn in the early morning, between 5 - 9am, so you don't lose to evaporation. Night watering increases the chances of lawn disease problems, so plants should be dry before nightfall.

You should always base the amount of watering on the needs of the plant. Water thoroughly every 5 to 7 days, as deep soaking helps develop strong roots. Remeber that lawn sprinklers or your underground sprinkler system should cover the entire lawn.

Find a happy balance. Over-watering will result in a shallow root system, and under-watering lawns will result in dead or brown grass. The best way to determine the proper amount of water for your lawn is to discuss it with our lawncare specialist.

LAWN MOWING TIPS
Proper mowing is really important to a beautiful lawn, and contrary to popular belief, leaving your clippings on the lawn are actually healthy for it. Grass clippings are 75 % water and contain up to 25% of the fertilizer that is applied to the lawn. Clippings break down pretty quick, which returns water and nutrients to the soil, which helps to build greener and healthier lawns.

THATCH CONTROL BY AERATION
Thatch is the layer of dead vegetation that builds up on lawns near the surface of the soil. A little thatch is healthy for a lawn, but lots of thatch causes problems. Grass clippings do not add to thatch levels, as clippings decompose very quickly, and besides, thatch is primarily made up of roots and stems.

Power raking your lawn is not recommended for removing thatch, and caution should be taken if doing so, because it can damage or kill your lawn.

Aeration is the best method of controlling thatch, as it removes plugs of soil from your lawn and places them above the thatch level, which speed up the decomposition of thatch, adding more nutrients to the soil.

Aeration softens up the soil, allowing it to breathe. Grass roots are able to grow deeper and then spread to fill in the thinner areas of the lawn.
